What up peeps!? We are celebrating TWO years of amazing events! When Frank and I conceived of this group; it’s incarnations and possibilities, we had no definition of time or longevity for this project. We knew we had a vision to both share my culinary passions and have Frank explore these passions with me while sharing it with you and the world beyond. Today (December 2nd 2017) is our two year anniversary and I wanted to take it back to where we started; Ramen! Around two to three years ago; Frank would hear me rave about eating Ramen and envision me eating Nissin: ten for a dolla ” Top Ramen” packs purchased from Western Beef.
• Chicken “Flavor”…. Yeeeaah…
Only after furthering the convo did he discover I was talking about an entirely different animal. For the uninitiated Ramen may seem like a mere bowl of soup with noodles and junk in it but you must understand the Japanese way of doing things…
Nothing in Japan (especially) food is prepared haphazardly or basically. Everything has purpose and intent. Food can be simple but it is meticulously created for harmony and balance; Ramen is no exception. In Japan you have MANY ramen masters; thousands who specialize in assorted varieties, regional tastes, noodles made with assorted flours, noodle styles, noodle doneness and ingredients within.
There is a Ramen museum for Christ’s sake where you can experience the history, culture, and love of ramen visually, aurally, and get it all up in your olfactory and digestive systems.
Join us as we enter the doors of EAK Ramen where they combine the two styles or Ramen. IE-KEI marries Tonkotsu broth (pork bone based broth) and Shoyu broth (Soy Sauce Based) to make harmonic bowls of goodness. Their broth is typically a little thicker than the norm and they pair assorted styles of noodles to match their great creations. They are the newcomers on the block in the US and specifically, NYC slinging their special craft Ramen for the NYC masses.
Come join us as we try to get into EAK with a minimal wait to enjoy this greatness. We will talk about 2017 and 2018 and commemorate our anniversary with you fine folks. Cold days are the days ramen soothes the mind body and soul the most. Can’t wait to do it all with you!
