It was one year ago around this time Frank and I started hatching this plan to put this group together. The idea was to first and foremost get Frank out of his adobo potato comfort zone and exposed the culinary gems he has missed out on in life. The second focus was to showcase my passion for the culinary world and talk about it in via some medium. One year later we have over 20 events under our belt several different cuisines explored and we are both all the wiser and hungrier for more.
We kicked off our first event with a Ramen double header last year so I felt it was only right that we return to one of the cuisines that sparked this group. So we will be going to Mr. Taka this time.
Mr. Taka is a low key spot on the LES that not too many on the ramen scene know about. Unless you are a super ramen head you will likely have not ventured to Mr. Taka for his excellent bowls of delicious slurpyness.
While he keeps the basics on the menu like Tonkotsu and Miso he tends to create some fantastically creative bowls for each season like this spring’s Avocado Miso Ramen (which Frank will hate)
and my personal favorite Curry Ramen which is sadly no longer on the menu (please bring it back)
Come join us to check out his Ume Shoyu Ramen or the Yuzu Shoyu Ramen which are unique in their own right. There are many other types of Ramen on the menu and they also make some great appetizers to compliment their gorgeous bowls so you will not be hungry. If you are just shout, kaidama onegaishimasu! for more noodles for yo mouf!
The LES is a food heaven and one of my favorite spots in NYC so come join us on this perfectly chilly day for warm Ramen and… there will be dessert in the area!
