Shortly after this spot opened I knew that I had to check it out. Around early 2000 I used to pass it by on my way to this and that thinking one day I am going to check these guys out and around a year later, it happened. Turkuaz was my first foray into Turkish cuisine. At the time it was a much rarer cuisine to have on the upper west-side and I wanted it more just because of that alone.
Turkish cuisine is that perfect “mut” cuisine perfectly influenced by it’s neighboring countries. With inspirations from Greek, Middle Eastern, North African, Jewish cuisine and more; Turkish cuisine takes the best of all of those worlds and puts them together in one cohesive delicious package. The ambiance in Turkuaz takes you to the land of it’s origin while making you feel warm and right at home. It’s food gives you that authentic exotic feel and appeal while soothing you with tunes from the motherland.
On the night of our event we will also be treated with Turkish style belly dancing during/after dinner. Starting at 9:30pm, the restaurant will erupt with live dancing from the professional belly dancer(s) as they invite patrons to join in the fun of the night. Truly an enjoyable spectacle to compliment the meal and cap the night.
Join us for another one with Culinary Foolinary as we explore the world of cuisine as foodies and fools with the same goal; enjoy great food, learn more about cultures and talk about it.
***As always there will be pictures taken and audio/video recordings of the deliciousness to supplement the Culinary Foolinary Site and Podcast and be sure to check out the Culinary Foolinary Podcast for our recaps on the past and upcoming events of this fabulous group.***
